  1. What is your insurance?
    1. Your contractor should hold both liability and workers compensation insurance. This protects you as the homeowner in cases where damage occurs to your property or to the contractor and their employees on the job. Gabor Design Build carries a one million dollar policy to cover us in such cases. It is also worth noting and checking with your contractor to make sure that any subcontractors they use are either covered under their policy or hold their own policy.

     

  2. Are you bonded and licensed?
    1. Yes, for both, in the State of Wisconsin. GDB holds a Dwelling Contractor Certification and Dwelling Contractor Qualifier Certification through the Wisconsin Department of Commerce, as well as a Home Improvement Contractor’s License through the City of Milwaukee. In addition, we are also Lead-Safe Renovator certified through the Department of Health Services. We are also proud members, in good standing, with NARI (National Association of the Remodeling Industry), MBA (Metropolitan Builders Association) and the BBB (Better Business Bureau).

     

  3. How long will the job take and will you put it in writing?
    1. Because we have dedicated Project Managers on staff and assigned to every job, we have years of experience with our reliable sub-contractors. This means we are as fast without compromising quality. And YES, we will put the completion date in writing, but we will also work diligently to keep you informed if complications arise that could change that date. Communication is a top priority at GDB which ensures a happy relationship long after the project is finished.

     

  4. What can I expect for extras (costs)?
    1. At Gabor Design Build, there are no extra costs in any project unless the client adds to the project or makes changes. Our goal is that you are excited enough about your remodel at the end that you recommend us to your friends, not feel like you’ve been nickel and dimed.

     

  5. How much of a mess can I expect?
    1. Due to the nature of the job, it does get messy. However, we make sure to clean up every day along the process. This is not only for your benefit but also ours. A clean job site improves efficiency and reduces errors. At the end of a project, we have a cleaning service come through to professionally make sure your space is ready to be enjoyed. Every project is different, however, with our many years of experience, we make the project painless. The project will be explained in great detail prior to any contract signing, and will also be recapped thoroughly in the “pre-construction walk-through” which is done before any demolition takes place.

     

  6. Can I see 3 references?
    1. With Gabor Design Build, we not only give you as many references as you’d like, but you can see our full client list – past and present. It’s important to vet your contractor through referrals and not to just go with the lowest bid. A good contractor should be able to justify a higher bid with positive referrals. Along with this, it’s important to ask, “Have you done a project like this before?” We love to show you pictures from past jobs like yours, and also to give you ideas for your project that you might not have even dreamt up yet.

     

  7. Do I get a waiver of lien?
    1. Yes, not only from us but also from the sub-contractors as well. This is important so you know you are only paying once for your remodel instead of paying your contractor and then getting a bill for electrical work or cabinetry later on. Putting our clients at ease is a big part of building lasting relationships so you can feel great about your investment.
